Book Review: Beauty for Ashes:A hickory ridge romance

I finally got around to reading another great novel I recieved from www.booksneeze.com to review! This is my honest opinion on the novel and I hope you will take a chance to check it out!

Beauty For Ashes: A hickory Ridge Romance

written by Dorothy Love

****  4 stars!

The main character in this novel is a young woman who has recently lost her husband in the Civil War. She is scared and moves back to Hickory Ridge with her brother. The two have been inseperable and get along just great since their parents passed early in their lives. They are always looking out for each other and helping out on the great farm they own in Hickory Ridge.

An old beau of Carrie's is after her to say yes she will marry him, but she just doesn't feel ready for that setp into the relationship. Always questioning wether he is the one? or if its too soon after her late husband's death.

And then mystery strikes Hickory Ridge, when a down to earth mysterious man shows up with "business" to attend to. Many of the townspeople despise this man, yet Carrie seems to have a wild attraction to him. Griff is always showing up right when she needs help the most and she is drawn into his charm. Griff has a special touch with horses and since the town is struggling with the war and such, Griff offers to stay and help around with a country carnival for the city to bring in some tourists.

Carrie was doing great helping along her brother with the farmhouse, then he decided he needed to go work elsewhere, only after he married a lady whom was "eccentric" in her ways and she had two young boys. Carrie was an instant Aunt, and before her brother moved his new wife was pregnant . . . and very sickly with her pregnancy. Carrie took on the role of caring for the boys and her brother's wife, Griff started stopping in and helping out around the house more and more...brought Christmas gifts for all of them and news came that Carrie's brother had died in a tragic accident....what would happen of the cozy farmhouse in Hickory Ridge now?

This novel was a keeper! Will the community accept Griff and Carrie's partnership ? will the town fall under due to the debt its facing? I guess you'll have to read the rest of the novel to find out!!

Book Review : Ascent From Darkness

Ascent From Darkness  A true story BY: MICHAEL LEEHAN

Finally with all the commotions of daily life, managed to get through this amazing novel! Definatly a 4-5 star book...but that could be me speaking from emotion since I love true stories! This story was a good read and made me not want to put the book down but at the same time felt sorry for the man experiencing all of this turmoil in his life.

At times I had to question the book , as to wether or not an actual human being could experience these symptoms of spiritual closeness/ enlightness and darkness that very closely resembled depression and other related mental illness. As I continued to read, it started to make more sense that Michael Leehan was indeed "possessed" by the devil's strong powers of manipulation.

After offering himself to the Devil, Michael mild disturbances from nausea, insomnia and anxiety to the more severe loud noises, voices whispering and the physical lacerations which are not conciously of his owndoing until the 'episode' is over. The longer Michael is under the Devil's influence the more he realises he is slowly slipping from reality.

Luckily for Michael, a family member intervenes and offers him support and encouragement to seek the help of the pastor that he needs and before it's too late Michael manages to recieve escape from the spiritual world back into reality without the forces of the devil.

Scrubbing Bubbles Review

Okay, this review is a bit different than my typical movie/book review but as a member of Bzzagent.com I had the opportunity recently to test out a new product by SC Johnson called Scrubbing Bubbles One Step Toilet Bowl Cleaner.

Scrubbing bubbles states that this product (similar to their shower cleaning kit) will keep your toilet clean with just 2 steps of a pedal a day. Sounds simple enough...so we tried it out!!

Soooo, setup was a breeze, it took a few minutes to trail set the sprayer action but once we finished setting it up and lining everything up it was great! The starter pack came with a cover to hide the can, which makes it fit in with your bathroom decor much better than the aeresol can. A small tube goes from the clip on your toilet bowl to the canister of toilet bowl cleaner...no batteries and no messy cleaner bottles to mess with OR BRUSHES!! This was a winner for me .. i hate putting my hands in any type of chemical/cleaner with or without gloves!

With just 2 steps on the pedal a day, for one second will spray cleaners across the entire toilet bowl keeping the toilet clean and fresh ... one canister is said to last 30 days with 2 steps a day on the pedal. I can't offer any proof to that statement since I have only been using mine for roughly 2 weeks. Sooo so far i still have cleaner left without having to get a refill!

Overall I would offer this product 5 stars!! The only problem i have is that the spray nozzle piece that showers the toilet bowl with the cleaner broke or fell off at some point and dissapeared (most likely flushed) , so now when we step on the pedal the cleaner just goes straight down. It still works great as a cleaner with a brush but I have full intentions of going out and getting a new starter pack :D I love it love it love it!!!

Thank you to bzzagent.com for offering me this opportunity to try out the product and share with my friends!!

Book Review for "Love You More" by Jennifer Grant

While adoption confuses many, the need for adoptive parents is there, whether it is local or overseas...many children need homes. Jennifer Grant in her novel "Love You More" takes us through the ups and downs of her journey to adopt.

Already a mother of 3, Jennifer takes in the consideration of of what family is to her...and while she fondled with the idea for some time, she felt God wanted her to adopt. There were numerous obstacles for her and her small family to overcome, yet somehow they still accomplished this amazing love for a little girl in Guatemala whom they chose to bring home.

This novel will keep you flipping pages as you follow Jennifer through grocery trips, late night chores and the happy and sad moments of her life. The struggles of adopting overseas and waiting for the phone call saying they could finally meet the little girl they were to call their own. There was the fear of the birth mother changing her mind about adoption and so many other worries. You catch Jennifer at her worst and at her best.

I feel this novel really portrays both sides of adoption. The joyous homecoming for the new child, the loss on the birth mothers half and all of the bumps along the journey. There is no false pretense telling you that adoption is all hassle or that only those unable to have their own children adopt. (Jennifer has 3 children already of her own) but this story shows you that building a family is about love! You just don't give up on the ones you love. You won't need a bookmark once you pick this novel up, as you will be glued after the first paragraph.

Although this story seems to be based towards the audience looking to adopt or really parents in general, I think many individuals that love a heart touching story will find "Love You More" very intriguing.

Book Review for : Thunder Dog by Michael Hingson

Just finished another great read from www.booksneeze.com titled Thunder Dog; written by Michael Hingson with the aid of Susy Flory. With the trouble and sorrow from the 9/11 attacks, this man brings us the story of his seeing eye dog Roselle and himself and their encounter with the collapsing towers at the World Trade Center in 2001.

This book is an amazing memoir of Michael Hingson a blind man whom worked on the 78th floor of the World Trade Center working for a data protection and network storage systems. Michael was head of NY operations and regional sales manager. He was doing very well for himself in a world that is meant for the seeing.

Using his senses, Michael managed to learn how to ride a bike at a young age and do many other things for himself. after signing in to work one morning he hears a BOOM! and this leads you into the jist of the story and how this brave man and his dog, Roselle survive the crash of 9/11 . They trudge their way the stairs..all thousand and some steps to their freedom at the bottom of the towers.

The two lived to tell their stories and here it is in print copy for us all to enjoy and share his bravery and determination throught this adventure of sorts. Feel the fear and share the same emotions Michael did during this experience.

I loved this book ! Definatly a 5 star ! At the end of the memoir there are a few pages dedicated to information about seeing-eye dogs and being blind in society. Not to mention the links, adresses and phone numbers to help you get more information on blindness.

Aside from the bravery this man shared, one of my favorite parts of this book was that the way his parents took on his blindness...let him live as a child without sending him to a blind school or treating him any different from their other child. I think this gave Michael alot of the sensory skills and confidence to be able to survive this drastic adventure!

Good Reading!
